Stair railings and guards in Longueuil

We rebuild interior stair handrails and guards in Longueuil: solid hardwood, lacquered steel, tempered glass. In a stacked dwelling the stairwell is narrow and closed in — everything rests on one continuous grip, screwed to the wall over the whole descent.

OUR RAILINGS AND GUARDS

Five railing families. One that fits your stairs.

In a stacked flat the stairwell is narrow and closed in: no opening to edge, no post to plant. Everything rides on the grip. Here are the five ways to change it, all set out under our railings and guards.

METHOD

How it works, from the site visit to the install

On a wall-mounted handrail the site visit is about the length to run in one piece, and about what sits behind the wall finish.

01
We measure at your place

We take the dimensions from the nose of the tread, regulated height included, and we note what can stay in place. Nothing is drawn before that visit.

02
Drawing and quote

You get a dimensioned drawing and a firm price: infill, handrail, fixings. Nothing is cut until you approve it.

03
Built in our shop

Everything is made in Granby, in our own shop. Count six to eight weeks between the approved drawing and the install. We check the dimensions a second time once the parts are laid out.

04
Installation and finish

Our own crew installs it, in one to three days. No subcontractor: the same people from start to finish.

In Longueuil, everything starts with the handrail.

In a stacked flat the interior flight runs between two walls: there is no opening to edge and no post to plant. What is left is a single grip, which has to carry the run from top to bottom and take the wear of people moving in and out. It is a simple piece of work, but it forgives nothing: a profile that is too wide will not close inside the hand, and a joint halfway down is felt every single time. So we deliver a handrail in one length, in varnished hardwood or lacquered steel, two finishes that stand up to traffic. The Granby shop supplies Longueuil like the rest of the South Shore.

  • A wall handrail in one piece, from the landing to the last step
  • A rounded profile the hand closes around, safer in a narrow stairwell
  • Varnished hardwood or lacquered steel, both built to take traffic

WHAT YOU GET

What is included, and what drives the price

A custom railing comes down to three or four decisions, not more. Here they are, so you know what to expect before you even call us.

Included in every project
  • The site measurement, at your home
  • The dimensioned drawing and your approval
  • Manufacturing in our own shop in Granby
  • Installation and finishing by our own crew
What pushes the price up
  • The total length to cover: flight, landing, upper-floor opening
  • The infill: turned wood, steel balusters, tempered glass
  • The number of sections and corners
  • A curved handrail rather than a straight one
What brings it down
  • Keeping the existing posts and fixings
  • Replacing the handrail only
  • Choosing a standard infill rather than glass
  • Doing the flight and the landing in one visit

QUOTE REQUEST

Measure the flight and the rest follows

The length of the flight, the present height of the grip and the material in place: with those three items we already know whether the work stops at the profile or goes down to the fixings.

If the unit is tenanted, tell us the date it comes free. That date drives the schedule, and it books far better in advance than at the last minute.

One photograph from the foot of the flight, framing the full length of the grip, plus one of a fixing: that is enough for a first opinion.

TURNKEY SERVICE

From the first measurement to the last tread, one team.

We subcontract neither the manufacturing nor the installation. The same team measures, mills and installs — and that is what allows us to correct on site the discrepancies no drawing ever anticipates.

Design

We measure the opening at your home, set out the rise and run, and settle the wood species and the railing. The project is fixed before a single piece is cut.

Manufacturing

Milled at the workshop, in hardwood. Every staircase is built for its own opening: nothing is assembled in series or pulled from stock.

Installation

Installed by our own team, in one to three days. Adjustments are made on site, against the real opening rather than the drawing.

THE OTHER JOB

And if the flight itself needs rebuilding?

A flight that has served thirty years of rented housing ends up moving as a whole: what is rebuilt is no longer the grip, but the structure carrying it.

Frequently asked questions

Can the handrail alone be replaced?
Yes, and it is the most frequent request here. As long as the flight is sound and the wall carries, we take off the old profile, rework the fixings and set a new piece over the full length.
How long should be allowed between the request and the installation?
Six to eight weeks between approval of the drawing and installation. Most of that time is milling and finishing at the workshop; the installation date is set once fabrication is under way.
Which profile lasts best in a heavily used stairwell?
A solid rounded profile, with no sharp edge and no groove for dust to settle in. Varnished hardwood can be repaired in place; lacquered steel cannot, but it does not move either. The choice comes down to the finish of the rest of the stairwell.
Is a guard required when the flight runs between two walls?
No, provided there is no open drop to protect: a handrail on one side then meets the requirement. As soon as one side opens onto a room or a landing, the full assembly is needed again.
Do you work with owners of rental buildings?
Yes, and the schedule then matters as much as the work itself. We measure while the unit is still occupied, build during the notice period and install once the place is empty.
