We design, manufacture and install custom and hardwood interior stairs. Everything starts in the workshop: the survey is done at your home, the machining is done here, and it is the same team that comes back to install.
Proximity changes one thing, and it’s not the delay. It’s the possibility to return. A staircase is adjusted to the actual cage, and sometimes a detail is decided on site rather than on the plan. New construction or replacement: two different sites
In new construction, the staircase is designed with the stairwell opening and arrives at the time scheduled in the sequence of work. The measurements are straightforward, the access is clear, and the installation is done before the floor finishes.
Instead, everything is based on the survey, with an existing stairwell opening, a floor already laid, and often a staircase that remains the only access to the floor during the work. We open a checkpoint before calculating, because the state of the stringers determines the actual extent of the site.
In both cases, the possible layout is deduced from the measurements, and is not chosen from the catalogue. This is also why we do not give a price until we have seen the staircase: two stairs of the same height can require very different work.

Are you travelling for the takeout?
Yes, always, and this is the first step. We set the installation date once manufacturing is started, so we do not announce a date that we cannot keep.
Can we replace a staircase without remaking the floor?
Most often yes, if the layout and the footprint remain the same. As soon as the flight changes length or the stairwell opening must be taken over, the floor is touched at least locally.This is one of the reasons why we survey before proposing. See renovation of stairs.
Do I need a permit to change a staircase?
This depends on the municipality and the extent of the work, but a replacement to the same is usually not required, while touching the stairwell opening is a matter of structure and changes the answer. The rule varies from city to city on the South Shore: inquire with your planning department before engaging.
Do you also manufacture the railing and the railing?
